Session Objectives:
Students will learn how to define the disability archive as both a public, institutional record and as a more elusive, private, and personal repository of embodied knowledge.
Having watched the “Ableism, Archives, and the Work Ahead” video with Robin Katz, students will begin to recognize the limits of institutional archives of disability and collectively imagine alternatives.
Evoke curiosity about the implications of ableism in the construction of archives, excitement about alternative possibilities, and agency in imagining and researching disability archives.

Facilitator Pre-Readings and Materials: Watch the Robin Katz video, “Ableism, Archives, and the Work Ahead” (2024) and read module explanations of definitions and etymologies as well as the concepts of archival silence, archival violence, and critical fabulation.
