Session Objectives:

By the end of the workshop, students will be able to:

  1. Understand core principles of abolition medicine and disability justice;

  2. Critically reflect on how medical education and clinical practices perpetuate anti-Black, racist, gendered, and ableist forms of exclusion;

  3. Explore community- and clinician-led practices that redefine care beyond the clinical gaze.

  • Facilitator Pre-Reading: Read through the list of readings (browse/skim), review the presentation materials and supplemental resources to understand the disability studies concepts as well as gain a general knowledge of zines, their use and importance.

  • Participant Pre-Reading: Read through the required readings on the reading list; quickly skim to get a general idea of what to expect.
